This painting represents a vision of the passage of Soul from the world of form, through to the subtle states. The birds represent messengers from the Angelic Realm.

This is a vision of the journey from the abode of the Living through to the realm of the Departed. Already the trees have lost their leaves and the cat is loosing his Earth form and slipping into the next state.

The image brings to mind the European Iron-Age and the religious belief concerning a 'Way' through to the after life. In this case the 'Doodweg' or 'Dead Way' from the people in what is now the Netherlands.

As the Soul is drawn into the Realm of Higher Consciousness, it floats free from the tangle of Earthly concerns.

The complexity of the Human experience and the tangles of cause and effect through the ancestral line that are released into infinity to be absorbed into the Source. The lone ‘ghost’ bird represents the soul, which is no longer tied to cycle of recurrence.

Crossing

The first work completed in this series dealing with transformation. Recently departed souls arrive at the crossing of the river Styx that leads to Hades, the plane of transformation. Landforms represent Earthly life and the matter state. The two figures in the foreground represent transition elements. Above them are transformed souls, stripped of their Earthly trappings free to soar.

South Node

This is an astrological reference. The South Node is, in the words of US astrologer Shelley Jordan, the place where ‘you plug in’. In other words, the conditions into which you were born. Antarctica and the southern ocean indicates the ‘plug in’ point. The birds represent the Sun, Moon and Ascendant at the beginning of one’s life quest to the north node, or destiny.

Departure

Albatrosses leave their hatching place to roam the oceans, returning to land to begin the cycle again. This refers again to the personal quest with the return to the source of all, which is glimpsed at on the horizon.

The albatross is a fitting metaphor for the suitablility of a being to its natural environment in which it fulfills its destiny/function.

Obligation

An ocean dwelling albatross returns to the land of form briefly in order to continue its genetic line according to an obligatory programme. This serves as a metaphor for obligations of even awakened souls to deal with Earth matters, however briefly while they explore the infinite ocean of Being.

Smooth passage
Soul has reached its haven and calm waters.

Unknown waters
The second part of the personal journey shows the launch into unknown waters and storms on the horizon.

Calm in the midst of storm
Here, the soul is caught up in the tempestuousness of relationships, but beyond the heaving sea can be glimpsed the goal.
